The Canadian branch of Walmart, headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, is the country’s second greatest retailer by revenue. Founded on March 17, 1994 through the acquisition Woolco Canada chain, it began operating a number of discount stores, and has followed the US-inspired expansion plan ever since. The company now operates the country’s most popular retail chain and provides many additional services.
The company currently employs more than 91 000 workers in more than 400 stores, many of which are classified as supercenters. Walmart stores can be found in all provinces and territories, except for Nunavut. In Walmart, customers can find whatever they can dream of, both food and non-food items including electronics, health and beauty necessities, clothing and jewellery, home and furniture items, sporting goods and much more. It sells well-established national brands, as well as private Walmart brands.
Running supercenters is now the main focus of the company. With the area of up to 340,000 sq ft, supercenters feature extra services such as garden centres, pet shops, pharmacies, photo processing labs, video rental stores etc. Walmart has also acquired its own banking licence, thus can meet customers’ banking and legal needs as well.
