Safeway, also referred to as Canada Safeway, is retail chain operating in Western Canada – in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan – with its headquarters in Calgary, Alberta. Founded in 1929 in Manitoba, Safeway currently runs over 180 supermarkets and employs more than 28,000 people. It was acquired by the retail giant Sobeys Inc. in 2013. The majority of the Safeway locations also include in-store pharmacies, and in addition to this more than 60 gas stations and 10 liquor stores are operated by Safeway.
